Life without style

I don't consider myself an unstylish person but I'm not necessarily a trend setter either. I love clothes but don't have the patience nor wallet to purchase fashionista type items. I work in an office full of young "Trendy Wendys" who look as though they receive style tips from Vogue each morning. White is the new in color? They'll be wearing it before the sun rises. I often see some of the girls walk by me and give me a once over. So what if I'm wearing the same style shirt (but in a different color) as I did the day before or if my two big toenails have remnants of last summer's pedicure (which was over 5 months ago)?

I remember growing up wearing my sister's hand-me-downs. We didn't have much money growing up. We were immigrants and my parents struggled to keep us fed so we didn't care that our clothes came from local thrift shops or that our shoes were Kmart brands. As an adult, I still watch my spendings but do splurge every now and then...after all who can resist a new Kate Spade bag?...especially if it's on sale???

So why is it that 20+ years later I still feel like the nerdy girl in a classroom of Barbie dolls? The girls at work have yet to say something about my lack of style or unrefined taste but their half cracked smiles and their not-so-subtle glances says it all. I watch as they walk by me. Their eyes seem to trail...first it's a glance at my worn out shirt (which has a slight hole in it because my ring snagged it acouple of months ago but I have yet to throw it out cause its so comfortable) then the eyes go to my washed out khakis (which has a slight pen mark on the left pocket cause my husband forgot to empty his pockets on laundry day) and finally the eyes fall all the way down to the pair of half-off last season pumps. They finally realize I am watching them and they manage to crack a smirk as they walk off with their hips swaying side to side.

It's a repetitive pattern that happens every now and then but I don't care. Heck, my clothes and stylings may not be runway quality but damn it- I sure look good in my kate spade.

LOL. yes, your embroidered vests and jammer pants were just as stylish as your puffy poodle do. LOL

Not self-consciousness, they are very apparent when they look!

That reminds me too much like the good old days. I don't think I ever had my sister's hand me downs. She use to love those MC Hammer pants. I remember the vests that Phuong use to wear. Wow, its been so long.
